Report Crime

Many homeowners here at Glen Iris Lofts have been the victim of property theft, vandalism or loss over the years.  Unfortunately, there have been no 'hard' numbers on the severity of the problem because the GIL Board has never put any sort of formal reporting system in place to track this widespread problem.

However, the Glen Iris Blog has recently learned that a formal system to track property crime at GIL, in fact, exists (and apparently has existed for the past three years)!

The Blog would like to thank homeowner Chris Gordon (Ph. II, Unit 611) for taking the time to develop the reporting system and letting us know about it so the information can be passed along to fellow homeowners.

To report an incidence of property theft, vandalism or damage that you experienced at any time in the past or at present, just follow the link below.

    Thank you tor taking the time to create this survey. I think it is a great idea for us yo track crime/damage reports in conjunction with the police reports (that to in fact get filed) or as our on method of tracking :when police reports are not filed.

    It would be great if we had a camera system to deter crime or perhaps even collect some evidence when crime happens. However according to the Sutherland's that is a liability. OH WAIT!!! There is a camera at the front door of the 640 GIL building that does not work. Hmmmm. Would that be a liability? Perhaps having the illusion of a camera system and providing a sense of false security is not a liability or is it??? Or.... Is it that Having a camera that operates so you see what is actually going on and might catch the criminals doing something wrong is the liability. Heaven forbid a criminal might sue us because they got caught doing something illegal here at GIL.... I am sure Stuart can play it in both directions. OH WAIT!!! He already has....get a grip pin head!!!

    I believe proper lighting will help a lot. We have many dark spots all around the property that make our property venerable to thieves and such. We even have un-lit main stairs to phase 2 that are a life safety issue, among others. We don't want any one getting hurt on our property and I believe that if we have a better lighting on our property people will feel safer and thieves might think twice about breaking in! Trimming trees is not enough people.
    This blog is a great communication tool. Lets use it to let our community whats going on here. At a board meeting that I attended last year I asked if they would post something when they heard about car break-ins. They said they would only report it if they got a police report or heard it right from the person that got broke into. So then I asked (get this) can we post when we hear about stuff? There comment: 'THE INTRANET IS ONLY FOR THE BOARD TO COMMUNICATE TO THE COMMUNITY NOT FOR THE COMMUNITY TO COMMUNICATE TO EACH OTHER". Can you be leave that crap. We need a change!
