The GIL Board is preparing to borrow as much as $400,000 in your name but without any opportunity for input, review or approval by homeowners. And we think that's just plain wrong.
Our By-Laws require homeowner approval for the budget every year - and all but two budgets in the entire history of Glen Iris Lofts were less than $400,000. If the Board spent that money via a special assessment, it would need homeowner approval for a tenth that amount. The Board is exploiting a loophole in our By-Laws that does not restrict the Board's authority to obtain loans to circumvent the implicit requirement found throughout our By-Laws that homeowners should have a say in how much is spent by their Association.

If this board wasn't required to put the annual budget before us every year at the meeting, I'm sure they wouldn't do that either. This board is undemocratic - period. Anyone can see that.
ReplyDeleteWhat "board" is this that everyone keeps referring to? Did Jennifer Kier, Michael Moore, Eric Moore, Yoel Bakas and Stuart Sutherland ALL vote to toss the cart in the trash? Of course not. That cry baby Kit Sutherland made that call, just as everyone knows it was her that wrote that E-mail from "the Board" about it. The rest of the spineless bunch just stood by and watched. They are all enablers who allow our assn to be hijacked by someone who hasn't even been elected! They are all part of the problem and need to go.

DeleteThey are doing it without getting permission from us first because the bylaws allow it and, second they are banking on anyone who is that upset by it will have calmed down by the next election...notice they are getting the loan now and not three months ago even though what they want spend it on had already been identified. Stuart and Kit play Glen Iris homeowners like a fiddle and have for years. But they are so out of touch anymore (like throwing away that new cart, which was about as big of a 'screw you' to everyone as it gets) that they have become their own worst liability. We just need to move on from the Sutherlands, and the sooner the better. The division and acrimony they bring to our community anymore stopped being outweighed by their long history of valuable and generous service to our Association a good while ago. They definitely deserve credit for their many, many contributions to Glen Iris Lofts, and that will always be true. But they risk losing that legacy the longer they stay and prove to homeowners that the generous volunteers named Kit and Stuart of yesteryear are definitely not the Kit and Stuart of today. We need new vitality and vision at the top as we confront a future that's very different from the past. That's my two cents worth anyway.
