Cart-Gate: No carts? Kit says just make two trips

It’s not exactly news to anyone who’s read Kit’s e-mail that she has a petty streak wider than The Home Depot parking lot, but what may be news to many homeowners at Glen Iris Lofts, is just how quickly she’ll throw them under the bus to accommodate it.

In a stunning display of just how little the Sutherlands really care about the needs of GIL homeowners, they announced yesterday that they intend to have the janitors throw the one brand new utility cart the Blog recently donated to the community into the trash and said ‘no’ to the donation of four additional carts!  And, in a year when we are staring down the barrel of over $400,000 in necessary building repairs with only $250,000 in the bank – and had to increase monthly assessments by 15% just to pay the regular bills – you think they'd have been happy to have the nearly $1,000 donation.  Yet they weren’t.  And that’s because from their perspective, when - and if - they decide homeowners can have more carts, they will just roll that cost into whatever increase they’ve got brewing for everyone next year.  Problem solved.

Isn’t it time that our community be treated like something more than a grade-school playground where immaturity reigns, petty trumps practical and all you can hear from those that are supposed to be leading us and setting a good example is ‘I know you are, but what am I?’

Might Glen Iris Lofts be a lot better off if the janitors left the new utility cart where it was and threw the Sutherlands out instead?

  1. Throw out the Slitherlands? But then who would squander our reserves on unqualified contractors, provided by shady property managers, doing overpriced jobs we don't need done? AND who would talk down to us, deny us information we are entitled to, LIE to us, prevent us from free speech and association... why, if we tossed the Queen (no, I meant Kit) and her pet shark out on their butts, we would have to develop as a community, get everybody involved, ask for help from the home owners and residents alike, budget and conserve and plan for the future... Throw the Slitherlands out? stop the madness!

  2. i agree...throwing the cart away is very childish...and not very smart as it will probably be remembered by many when there are no carts available and they have to go chasing one down.

  3. Kit and Stewart, I have known you for years and didn't see you for the petty, spoiled children that you are. You have lost another vote. The rest of the board... stay on this path and share their fate.

  4. Blogger, I think you are mistaken, it's Kit's ass that is bigger than the Home Depot Parking Lot. Have you seen that Ba-donk-a-donk?

  5. i guess they had better throw out the popper scoopers in the dog run and that table and chairs too. I am certain those were not approved because i donated two of the popper scoopers myself.

  6. Since Kit thinks we have so many spare carts we can afford to throw them in the garbage, I'm sure she won't mind helping you carry your groceries up should you be unable to find one! Just call Kit's Concierge at 404-875-2529. No calls after midnight, please.

  7. I don't know what other homeowners' experience has been, but it's been mine that about half the time there are no carts at all available in the elevator lobby of the lower parking deck of Phase 2. So I find the fact that they have chosen to throw one in the garbage merely because they take exception to the views of whomever donated it, extremely aggravating. Grow up people!

  8. Chris, I have to agree with you. I often find that there is not a single cart when I come home from Costco or the pet store with 50 pound bags of dog food to carry up to my unit. I have waited hours at times for a cart to appear again. Let's face it, many people will take the carts and leave them in their unit until they are damn good and ready to return them. I have noticed a few of our neighbors like Wayne and myself who are very good bout returning the carts immediately after use. However, that is something that will never change, so the best answer would be more carts. It is ashamed that the Sutherlands in their quest to segregate the community and reap the benefits for themselves personally have gone to such lengths to throw away a perfectly good brand new cart that we could all have benefitted from. You know my dad once told me that a good leader is one who works for the benefit of all concerned and when they are no longer doing that then they should no longer be the leader. I do think it is time the Sutherlan';s step down for the good of the community. After all what kind of leader could do such when they know they are dividing the community they so profusely pretest to love. It is a shame that their greed and selfishness has hurt this community so badly. I happen to love my loft and so many of my neighbors, but I have to honestly say that the Sutherlands have made me very jaded toward so much of it and especially the board. I get so angry when i think about how they treat everyone.> I can remember a time when my 70 year old mother had a seizure in the parking lot at our community and Stuart tried to force the paramedics off of the property because my mother was not a resident of the community. When I think about this and all the times I have been treated by the Sutherlands, all the times they have spread out right lies about my financial condition and my unit going into foreclosure: i just get more angry. I also wonder why Stuart went to such lengths at the annual meeting to state emphatically that my unit (#302) was specifically studied in the insulation report, when you read the report and there is only the mention of unit #305 & #312 that were studied. Moreover that study did not even consist of 10% of the surface area which is the standard minimum sampling amount of any construction study. I happen to know this fact as a home builder of ten years and as a broker who has report studies down on a regular basis on homes I represent for the banks. That being said, We need to call for the Sutherland's to recuse themselves for the simple fact that their leadership is clearly not for the benefit of the community at large.

  9. I agree, Bru. If we have come to a place where Kit and Stuart feel totally comfortable throwing away a brand new cart DESPITE the fact that home owners genuinely need them and not having them makes more of a chore of simple things like bringing groceries home, the Sutherlands no longer have the best interests of home owners at heart and they need to go. And the fact that Yoel, Jen and the other Board members did nothing to prevent such an obvious slap in the face to everyone, then they aren't of much use in helping to guide our Board toward sound decisions. They are just rubber stamps.
Kit, Stuart, Yoel and the rest of the Board - if you really care about this community, you should step down. The cart fiasco is a clear sign that the Sutherland's have done enough and they no longer represent the best interests of 99% of home owners.

  10. At the last board meeting not only did that say they decided to throw away the cart but they said that the would provide more carts (with our money) if we needed them. What a crock of .......
