It's still 'Kit's Board' and Fidel's Cuba...

You know how you can always tell when you've had a busy weekend going here, going there, shopping for this and dropping off that....compared with one where you sat around the house not doing much of this and careful to not do too much of that?  Easy.  You end up with a pocket full of receipts and paper doing the former and nary two cotton fibers to rub together doing the later.

And it's no different with GIL Board members as it is with anyone else.  That's how you know that despite their big put-on for the they've-fallen-for-that-crap-for-nearly-six-years-now-so-surely-they-will-again homeowners (you know the skit - Stuart pretends to be on-the-Board-and-In-Charge while
Kit takes a hiatus, sticking her nose into other people's business other than ours), Kit has never really gone anywhere.  She's right where she's been all along - running 'her Board'.
You know how I know? That's simple. (Continued...)

Our Association shelled out $675 to Kit Sutherland over the last ten months by way of twenty dollars here, sixty dollars there reimbursements while, during the same period it paid out only $135 to Yoel Bakas, who was, at least in title, the President of the Board.  As for the other members of the Board, you ask? Not that it will come as any big surprise, but the reimbursements paid to other Board members were even more inconsequential than those paid to Yoel.

I know, there are some of you that are probably about ready to jump out of your chair to make the case that all that proves is that Kit's just very dedicated and that she's 'involved'.  And to those I would simply say, 'no it doesn't'.  What it really shows is that no matter who you think you elect and irrespective of the limitations placed on Board service set forth in our By-Laws, it's still Kit's Board, just like it's always been.  That's why nothing ever changes here - with the notable exception of our chronically obese and-getting-even-bigger budget and our 'Reserve Fund' that's looking more like an anorexic runway disaster than the voluptuous date we are supposed to be taking to the Reserve Study Ball.

Ours is a community frozen in time.  Sure, the pool awnings have been replaced, but they're still the same color (guess who took an 'informal poll of residents' and decided to order the same color as before? Yes, you guessed correctly), the entry lobbies are still devoid of anything living, the birds are still relieving themselves on residents and their cars and automobile break-ins are still the standard fare - although things have livened up a bit in that department as now whole cars get stolen right out of the garage.  The only thing 'new' - and it really isn't new at all - is the Board's curious and sudden enthusiasm for an 'upgrade' in security - a topic that has more or less been the red-haired step child of homeowner requests - by way of a proposal to tip homeowners upside down and empty their pockets again for Midtown Ponce Security Alliance, Part Deux because, well, they were sorta counting on everyone having forgotten what a joke it was and, well, no doubt due to the fact that the new proposed security patrol was founded by Kit's business partner, friend and former Glen Iris Lofts resident Kip Rupp.

Heck, if change keeps pouring in at this rate, we all might find ourselves making $5 a day and swapping used car parts with one another amid constant brown-outs - all the while pretending not to notice the occasional homeowner among us who bravely but silently abandons whatever equity in their condo they may have left as they take to the waters in a makeshift raft they hope will hold together until they get within swimming distance of Florida.

Or, you could wake up, get off your arse and join us in our effort to create a new and better Glen Iris Lofts!  Head over to the Support Change page of this Blog and be part of something new.  And don't worry, no one will tell El Comandante about it.
